Susan Oshel, CPM, LM
I began serving families as a labor assistant working with various midwives in 1976. In 1981, after 5 years of training, I began practicing midwifery. Additionally, I have extensive training in vitamin and herbal therapies
I attained certification as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) in 1996 when it became available and have been licensed by the Virginia Board of Medicine since 2004.
In the past 40 years of attending births I am humbled to have been invited into every one, a very special invitation to a private celebration.
I am also fulfilling a dream to improve maternity care and birth outcomes around the world as the director of midwifery academics for Charis Childbirth, an international school for midwives, childbirth educators, doulas, postpartum doulas and lactation counselors. I’m also affiliated with MANA in an ongoing role as a birth data reviewer.
I’m happily married and have 4 adult children, 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandbabies. I love gardening, crocheting and graphic art.
